Do you think humans will ever colonize Mars? What would life there actually look like?

I do not suspect that Mars will be colonized in my lifetime. There will be a mission in my lifetime for sure, definitely unmanned and likely a disastrous manned flight.
I think a look at the history of the hunt for the Northwest Passage and how it played out is likely a good place to start regarding what life there would actually look like. A remote hostile environment that was completely unfriendly to colonization, the Northwest Passage took the lives of many crews, often ending in starvation, insanity and grave illness.
Will life on Mars be possible? Yes, the Inuit have survived ridiculously remote and hostile environments for centuries, so I know it’s possible, but not for your average pampered billionaire. So it’ll depend on who goes out to Mars first, people who have been working with the research teams in Nunavut, or someone at the head of a company just looking to ‘be the first.’
